Bike To Work And School Day 2013 is May 31
Woman on BikeThe date has been moved back a bit this year to provide nice riding weather (hopefully) and increase participation. It is a great time to dust the cobwebs off of your bike and join your neighbors for a ride to work. For those entered in the Ski Town Show Down, this will be a perfect opportunity to leave the car at home, join the fun AND help Park City win! This year, we are collaborating with the Park City School district to get students, parents and teachers to participate. We are planning to have some food and refreshments at the Yarrow. There will also be bells and water bottles and other great swag!

Outdoor Water Conservation Tips
Water conservationIt's just about time to begin watering lawns and gardens again.  Take the time to set up your sprinkler timer to water appropriate for the season.  Adjust the schedule based on the season to eliminate waster water and provide adquate water for a healthy landscape.  A one per month adjustment will eliminate wasted water and maximize plant health.

Visit the Learning Garden in Layton (Weber Basin Water Conservancy District) for landscape ideas and learn how beautiful water-wise landscaping can be.  Also, if you don't know what type of schedule you need for your irrigation, you can call for a free water check and have someone help you with your sprinkler system schedule based on what is happening with your system and your soils.  To schedule a water audit, please call 435-615-5331.  You can also visit our website for information on our smart water controller rebate.

Wildfire Protection
WildfireWith the lower than average snowfall last winter, the threat of wildfires is very real. Citizens are encouraged to have an evacuation plan in place and to take personal responsibility for wildfire protection.

• Ready – Be ready, be Firewise. Take personal responsibility and prepare long before the threat of a wildland fire so your home is ready in case of a fire. Create defensible space by clearing brush away from your home. Use fire-resistant landscaping and harden your home with fire-safe construction measures. Assemble emergency supplies and belongings in a safe place. Plan escape routes and make sure all those residing within the home know the plan of action.

• Set – Situational awareness. Pack your emergency items. Stay aware of the latest news and information on the fire from local media, your local fire department and public safety.

• Go – Act early! Follow your personal wildland fire action plan. Doing so will not only support your safety,
but will allow firefighters to best maneuver resources to combat the fire.

Indoor Water Conservation Tip
Toilet Tips
• Toilets consume about 27 percent of the water used inside the home. You can save water and money by checking your toilets for leaks, replacing your flapper and installing a fill cycle diverter or upgrading to a high-efficiency toilet.
• Installing an early-closure flapper can save from one half to 1.5 gallons per flush. Investing in a high-efficiency toilet can save more than 4,000 gallons of water per person each year.
