Historic Preservation Month
WSIAcross the nation, historic preservation enthusiasts celebrate our history and historic places during the month of May. In honor of Preservation Month, the Park City Council and Historic Preservation Board (HPB) partnered to present the HPB’s 2012 Preservation Award to the Washington School House Hotel )pictured at left) for their Excellence in Restoration of the 1889 Landmark structure. The purpose of this annual award is to promote the work of those committed to preserving and restoring Park City’s historic architecture.

The celebration of our built heritage continues throughout the month of June during our locally-designated “Preservation Month.” June is a time to commemorate and appreciate the rich history and distinctive architecture of our community.

As summer begins, take the time to appreciate our community’s architectural heritage. Recognize the rustic, mining-era structures and ruins as well as the funky impregnated A-frame homes that signify the beginning of our ski industry era; a mix of old, retro, modern, and contemporary that constitutes Park City’s unique identity.

Solar Now as Easy as A-B-C in Park City
Park City has updated its permitting process for installing solar panels on your home or business. The Building department recently adopted the Solar ABCs, a new permitting document recognized as a Best Practice for streamlined solar permitting among municipal governments. Summit County also adopted the ABCs helping to create a regional standard for the review of solar projects.

In addition to improved permitting Park City also offers a permit fee waiver, up to $1,000, for new solar projects installed in 2013. This waiver will save hundreds of dollars on a standard residential install and even more on a commercial installation. Details on Park City’s new ABCs and other aspects of solar permitting are available at our online “one-stop shop” for solar.

News You Can Use
Green Your Routine Outdoor Water Conservation Tips

Watering between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm is prohibited under the municipal code, and is much less efficient then watering during permitted times. Water dry or brown spots in your lawn by hand with a hose rather than running your sprinkler system. This will take care of the brown spot while saving thousands of gallons by not overwatering the rest of the entire lawn to take care of the same brown spot.

Deer Valley Drive Construction Update
Crews will be working on utility improvements.  All travelers, including motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians need to pay attention to the signs and flaggers through the area.  Use Mellow Mountain to Aerie Drive as an alternate to avoid the construction area especially between the hours or 4-5:00 p.m.  More
