At the recently completed Utah Recreation & Parks Association (URPA) Conference in St. George the PC MARC was the recipient of the “Outstanding Facility” Award given each year to a recreation facility that the URPA Board deems the most deserving. There were eight facilities nominated across the state with PC MARC being the winner!

Transit Housing at Public Works
The City Council broke ground on the transit housing project at Public Works on April 11. The project is the first of its kind ever funded by the Federal Transit Administration. The city received a grant of $1.5mi to fund the construction of 13 units for seasonal transit employees. The city will contribute $300,000 of the total project cost of $1.8 million. We’ve been testing the idea at the old fire station for the last couple of years. The availability of housing has been quite helpful in recruiting and retaining bus drivers for the winter months. The project includes photovoltaics to offset energy costs. The units are fully furnished. There is a rooftop garden and patio. The project is expected to be completed by November.  Chief Wade Carpenter
Park City Chief of Police Wade Carpenter was elected President of the Utah Chiefs of Police Association on March 26, 2013, at their annual conference. , it is noteworthy that Chief Carpenter’s colleagues indicated their confidence and respect by electing him to this very important office.

As President of the Association, Chief Carpenter represents all municipal chiefs of police on matters of statewide law enforcement interest. He will serve on statewide committees and will respond to media inquiries and other law enforcement agencies.

Utah legislators often ask for the Association President for opinions on bills and proposed actions. Chief Carpenter will attend the weekly Utah Law Enforcement Legislature Committee meetings throughout the legislative session.

General Municipal Election-Candidate Filing Period June 3 through 7, 2013
A General Municipal Election for the office of Mayor and two (2) City Council seats will be held November 5, 2013. Pursuant to State Law, a Primary Election must be held on August 13, 2013, if more than twice the number of candidates file than are to be elected.

Any person seeking to become a candidate for a municipal office may file a Declaration of Candidacy in person with the Election Official between June 3 and June 7, 2013 weekdays, during normal office hours, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Marsac City Hall, 445 Marsac Avenue, Park City Utah.

Candidate Qualifications:
1) Candidates must be a United States citizen at time of filing for candidacy.
2) Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the next municipal election.
3) Candidates must be a legal resident of the municipality, or a resident of the recent annexed area, for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election.
4) Candidates must be a registered voter of the municipality.
Pursuant to Utah Constitution Article IV, Section 6, any mentally incompetent person, any person convicted of a felony, or any person convicted of treason or a crime against the City may not hold office until the right to vote or hold elective office is restored as provided by statute.

Park City Municipal is teaming up with Swaner EcoCenter to deliver an inspiring sustainability speaker series this spring. The series will continues through early May with two additional events.

Dumpster Days
Park City Municipal Corporation is again partnering with Recycle Utah to provide the 2013 Dumpster Days. This is an opportunity for Park City residents to clean up around their yards. On each of the 7 weekends listed below large bins will be placed on Woodbine Way for Garbage and yard waste. The drop off hours are 9 am- 4 pm only.

New! Pajama Storytime at the Park City Library
It’s Pajama Time; wear comfy pajamas, bring a favorite bedtime buddy and a grown-up partner and let’s have fun! Join us every Thursday evening (starting April 4th) from 6:30pm – 7:30pm for a fun interactive storytime! Children ages birth through 7 years and their families or caregivers will enjoy engaging stories, songs, rhymes and activities that support early literacy development.

City Council Actions
In March, City Council . . .

• Authorized the City Manager to enter into a contract with Water Research Foundation for a collaborative evaluation of the water distribution system.
• Approved an ordinance to prohibit reselling ski lift tickets.
• Adopted an Interlocal Agreement between Salt Lake City Corporation and Park City Municipal Corporation for the Wasatch Solar Challenge.
• Accepted an annexation petition for 1,367.94 acres of property in the Round Valley open space north and south of Quinn’s Sports Complex on the west side of SR248.
• Approved a Service Agreement with Matthew Senski for advertising and program sponsorship services for the Park City Ice Arena. Contract renewal is to be reviewed annually and the commission is based on the actual sale price, not the discount.

The Park City Golf Pro Shop is open with limited hours until the course opens.  Regular hours will begin when the course opens. New inventory will be arriving throughout April, drop by and check it out. Please be sure to check the website for upcoming association meetings and membership forms.

Household Hazardous Waste Dropoff
Recycle Utah is holding a free household hazardous waste and prescription drug collection event Saturday, May 4th, at the Canyons parking lot from 9am – 1pm. This free collection is for residents only, not businesses. Acceptable items include over-the-counter and prescription drugs; paints, stains, and finishes; cleaners and solvents; automotive fluids and tires; fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides; batteries and smoke detectors; refrigerators; and items containing mercury such as switches, thermometers, thermostats, and CFL light bulbs.

This event is a collaboration between Recycle Utah, The Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District (SBWRD), Park City Municipal Corporation, and Summit County, with a special thanks to the Park City Fire District.
