Memorial Walls in Park City Cemetery
Memorial WallsA cluster of eight distressed walls have been designed and built just south of the gazebo in the City Cemetery. Each wall contains spaces for plaques to be placed as an alternative way to remember loved ones. The walls are named after local mines in the area such as Comstock, Ontario, Daly West, Jupiter, Lucky Bill, Three Kings, Silver King and Spiro. Residents may purchase plaque sites on any wall, any space. Interested persons should contact cemetery staff for questions or to set up an appointment to make a purchase.

Eligibility rules are the same as for the cemetery; the person must own property within the City limits, have previously resided within the City limits of Park City for a period of more than ten years consecutively, or a person born in Park City, is eligible to purchase cemetery memorial wall property (plaque site). Park City Police Department Announces New Advocacy Program

Through the Victims of Crime Act, Park City secured funding late last year to begin offering direct support and services to victims. Until recently, the Police Department was without a victim advocate.  In November 2012, the department hired Tawnya Cazier as the new Victim Advocate Coordinator. There is a lot of work to be done. Adding volunteers would help assist victims in a variety of ways, including on-scene response, court accompaniment and crisis intervention. Advocate volunteers are in a unique position to support the victim, which allows the Police Department and Prosecutor’s office to better serve him or her throughout the criminal justice process.

Training for volunteers will be provided and arranged through Cazier. A good driving record and reliable vehicle are required as volunteers may be asked to drive to trainings, court, or crime scenes while performing volunteer duties. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with Park City Police Department’s Victim Advocacy Program, a volunteer application can be filled out here. Additional questions can be directed to Tawnya Cazier at (435) 615-5575 or via email.

Water
Living in a ski town you can’t help hoping for an epic snow season each and every year. The Park City Water Department shares that same hope—not only for powder days, but also because of snow’s impact on our water supply. Park City sits atop the Weber River watershed and the bulk of our summer drinking water supply comes from the previous winter. While other Utah cities can rely on upstream storage to moderate supply, Park City must depend on Tunnel and spring flows fed by winter snow. We don’t always get the snow we hope for. The 2012 winter season left us with below average snowfall followed by an unusually hot and dry summer. Thankfully, the Quinn’s Junction Water Treatment Plant came online that year, providing access to an additional water source.

More than half way through the 2013 winter season, snowfall is mirroring the 2012 season. As of March 1, 2013 snow in Thaynes Canyon is at about 71% of average. The Water Department will continue to monitor our water supply, but we ask for your help with the coming irrigation season. Prior to turning on your irrigation system, take a moment to inspect your system for broken and badly aligned sprinkler heads. Park City Water can also help you reduce your water use. We offer a rebate on new “smart” irrigation controllers and yard water audits. For more information on these programs and other tips please click here. Slow the flow, save H20.

In February, City Council . . .
• Paid tribute to retiring Police Sergeant Lynn Nagel and acknowledged his 21 years of service.
• Appointed a Citizen’s Advisory Open Space Committee (COSAC) to advise them on open space acquisition.
• Authorized the City Manager to pay SBWRD additional impact fees for discharging solids to the sewer at the Quinns Junction Water Treatment Plant.
• Amended the lobbying contract for an additional $80,000 for the 2013 legislative session.
