 Water GraphicNovember 2012 Water Quality Update
The Park City Water Department has implemented a number of water quality activities in the distribution system including enhanced water testing and technological improvements at the Spiro Water Treatment Plant. Staff also submitted a research grant application to the Water Research Foundation for a pilot program to test more aggressive pipe cleaning programs. Additional water quality improvements have been made system-wide including an expansion of the water portfolio with the completion of the Quinns Junction Water Treatment Plant and enhanced staffing deployment and specialization. Design work has begun on the Judge Tunnel pipeline that, when completed, will transport Judge Tunnel water to the Quinns Plant for treatment to reduce metals concentration and lower antimony levels. Resort Communities Sales Tax
Resort Sales TaxDuring the November 6th General Election, Park City residents approved a .5% increase to the Resort Communities Sales and Use Tax. The .5% increase means an additional 50 cent sales tax on a $100 purchase. The tax will go into effect April 1, 2013. It is anticipated that the additional Resort Sales Tax will generate approximately $3.2 million in additional tax revenue annually. City Council will allocate all revenue generated directly to the Capital Improvement Fund to be used for the following capital projects:

• Historic Park City/ Main Street & Downtown Projects
• OTIS (Old Town Street and Utility Improvement Projects)
• Storm Drain Improvements
• Open Space Acquisitions
• Other capital improvement projects as determined appropriate by City Council

Osprey NestOsprey Nest
Here is Park City’s first Osprey nest. It is located on the golf course just behind 15 green. The Osprey fish in the lake every summer. Thanks to Rich Miller (Friends group) for helping to move this along. The nest was provided by Bob Walters, who is with the Utah Division of Natural Resources. Mitch Terrell of Rocky Mountain Power helped set up donation of the pole and its placement. Park City Municipal Public Works and Maintenance personnel prepared the nest for its first Osprey family. Watch for the nest’s first occupants next spring/summer. Thank you to all who were involved in the project.

Affordable Housing Myths
The most commonly held assumptions, myths and stereotypes about affordable housing can be consolidated into five main themes:
1. Effect on value of adjacent properties;
2. Traffic and added burden to schools and civic infrastructure;
3. Requires government resources with little to no return on investment;
4. Low cost housing increases crime; and,
5. It is ugly and looks cheap.

Green Your Routine
Heater Fan
These heat-powered circulating fans are designed to set directly on top of woodstoves or gas room heaters. They send the heat out horizontally, instead of letting it rise upwards, which results in much faster and more efficient room heating.

Another feature of the heater fan is the operating cost - nothing! No batteries or electricity are required. The thermoelectric module runs by the heat of the stove. The fans are nearly silent, and designed to last a lifetime.   More
