Police Chief Carpenter Receives 2012 Characters Unite AwardWade Carpenter
Wade Carpenter, Leaders for Life Co-Founder, is the Recipient of a 2012 Characters Unite Award. Leaders For Life was developed with the intent of addressing the underlying issues of self-esteem and the lack of leadership. Fostering leadership skills gives young adults the tools to be good citizens and avoid the pitfalls of bullying and substance abuse. The program teaches them to celebrate their differences, protect one another, and to embrace love and friendship. Chief Carpenter also teamed with the Utah Chiefs of Police Association, Utah Sheriffs Association, and local State Legislators to establish a legislative house bill that prevents bullying and hazing in elementary and secondary schools; the bill was passed during the 2011 State of Utah General Session. Congratulations, Chief Carpenter.

Swede Alley Crosswalk Construction Update
Swede Alley CrosswalkThe Swede Alley Crosswalk project has been in construction for three weeks. The sidewalk and ADA ramps are complete at the corner of Swede Alley and Heber Avenue, the concrete base is in and the installation of the bricks for the two crosswalks at this corner has begun. The Transit Center and China Bridge brick crosswalks are proceeding into the middle third of the street. The storm drain and sidewalk improvements at the Egyptian Walkway are complete. The brick crosswalks will begin after completing the first third of the Swede and Heber intersection. The construction has had only minor impacts to traffic on Swede Alley. The contractor is on schedule and anticipates completing all work in the roadway by the first week of November.

The biggest obstacles to comprehensive family emergency readiness education are the misconceptions surrounding the true nature of preparedness. So to set the stage for better education and ultimately better public safety, view popular misconceptions surrounding disasters.

"Let's Get Moving!”
Active Seniors

Over the past twenty years a significant amount of research has been done looking to find this secret to quality aging. One element that continues to prove worthwhile is the idea of active aging. People with controlled high blood pressure, who begin an exercise program, increase their longevity by 60%. In those over 80 years old, moderate exercise increased longevity by 38% and up to 73% in those that exercise at a high intensity level.  More

News You Can Use
CityTour 2012
For the past 25 years, groups of Park City and Summit County citizens have traveled the West visiting other communities experiencing growth and/or tourism development issues. The goal has been to share knowledge and learn from the successes and experiences of others. Open and honest discussions with our counterparts have been mutually beneficial and rewarding. In many instances things we learned have influenced how we do business in Park City and imbued us with a renewed sense of vision, energy and mission. We gained valuable perspectives and made many new friends along the way.  Read the 2012 CityTour observations in detail.
