CityTour 2012
CityTour 2012

This year's CityTour dates are Wednesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 9 and will take us to Las Vegas and Brian Head.

One of the main reasons for choosing to visit Las Vegas is to meet with the people at Zappos.com. This on-line retailer of shoes and clothing started in the early 2000's. The 38 year old founder, Tony Hsieh, has committed his company to reinventing downtown Las Vegas. He purchased the old Las Vegas City Hall and is in the process of renovating it and moving his corporate headquarters to downtown Las Vegas (probably 1500+ people). In addition, Zappos is developing the Downtown Program, a multifaceted initiative to bring entrepreneurial vitality and redevelopment to downtown Las Vegas.

Residential Curbside Waste & Recycling Changes
Summit County has signed a new contract for residential curbside waste and recycling. The new services are being provided by Republic Services (formerly known as Allied Waste) and changes went into effect on July 2, 2012.

The new services expand curbside recycling from roughly 5,750 residences to over 14,000 residential addresses County-wide. Nearly all residential addresses will notice some sort of change regarding their waste and/or recycling services starting in July. You should have received information in the mail describing these changes and the new pick-up schedule.

For questions regarding the new services, please reach out to Republic Services at 435-615-8311. There are many changes occurring and some unique circumstances to address.  Republic Services will work through inquiries as quickly as possible.

Additional information is available at the Summit County website. Click on the ‘Curbside Pickup & Recycling Information Packet’ link for details on what items you can recycle. The link also includes the new recycling pick-up schedule for your neighborhood.

Green Your Routine
Bottled water makers make millions off people who believe their products are purer than tap water, but consumers do not realize that they are less regulated than plain old tap water.  Americans pay top dollar for bottled water, which costs up to 1,900 times more than tap water and uses up to 2,000 times more energy to produce and deliver. Save money and energy . . . fill a reusable water bottle from the tap.
