Council Sets 2012 Direction
City Council held its annual visioning session February 9 – 10. A major focus of this year’s visioning session was discussion and adoption of a set of biennial strategic plans aligned with each of Council’s goals: Effective Transportation, Open and Responsive Government, Public Safety, Preservation of Park City Character, Recreation, Open Space and Trails, Regional Collaboration, World Class, Multi-Season Resort Economy, and Water and the Natural Environment. Each plan outlines the desired outcomes and key strategies and an action plan for 2012-13. The plans also highlight recent successes and current challenges, key indicators and industry trends. These two-year strategic plans are cross-departmental and align with the City’s Budgeting for Outcomes approach.

Letter from Brian Kahn, Park City’s Low Carbon Diet Coordinator
Thank you for attending the Leadership 101 program in February. As you now know, the city-sponsored, community-wide Low Carbon Diet program is aimed at leaders and supporters of the green movement who believe the best action is to take action.

From energy efficiency decisions in your home to modes of transportation to your diet, every decision you make creates your carbon footprint. Now you have the ability to hold yourself and others accountable through the power of group dynamics.

As your program coordinator, I look forward to the opportunity to work with you in reducing greater Park City’s carbon footprint. For more information, visit the ParkCityGreen.org website and click on Low Carbon Diet.

Be Environmentally Cool,
Brian

Fire Safety
Park City requires fire sprinklers to be installed in all new construction. It has been proven that fire sprinklers save lives and property by suppressing the fire and giving the fire department time to respond. An annual inspection is required to keep the fire sprinkler system in working order. A 5-year inspection is required in residential and commercial buildings to check all valves and equipment. In the past it has not been the policy of fire inspectors to inspect residential homes on a regular basis. Homeowner should be aware if there is a fire incident and the fire sprinkler system is not annually maintained, the insurance claim could be adversely affected.

Senior Citizens and Firefighters
Seniors and Firefighters
The Summit County Seniors were treated to a special activity hosted by the Park City Fire District. The event was held on February 28 at the Burns Fire Station on Bitner Road. Fire Chief Paul Hewitt coordinated the event that included lunch prepared and served by firefighters to approximately 60 seniors, presentations, and a tour of the new facility. The seniors expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Fire District for their professional skills and courtesy. A special thanks to Chief Paul Hewitt, Chief Ray Huntzinger, Caption Max Dosher and District Employees for a job well done.
