The Engineering Division has the responsibility to coordinate, review and approve all private-funded public improvements initiated by the development community, beginning with design through the actual construction and eventual final acceptance. The City Engineer's office also works closely with the Planning and Building Divisions to accomplish that task.
In addition, the City Engineer’s office has project review and management of many of the City's Capital Improvement Projects. The Public Improvements Inspector inspects all water line installation, as well as all work that occurs within the public right-of-way.
The City has adopted the American Public Works Association Standard Specifications and Plans as the standards for all construction/improvements that occurs in the public right-of-way. The City Engineer's office is responsible for maintaining and updating the City Supplemental Standards and Specifications that are to be used in conjunction with the APWA standards.
