Beginning August 13-14, 2019 (weather permitting) 4th Street between Main Street and Swede Alley will become a one-way street eastbound. 4th Street will be accessible from Main Street only, allowing for better site lines for pedestrians traveling along Main Street sidewalks and to help with traffic flow.

A painted pedestrian buffer will also be added along 4th Street to create a safe space for people to walk that is separate from traffic.

This change is part of several walkability and circulation projects for Old Town. Ongoing efforts are intended to increase pedestrian safety and efficiency of turning vehicles. As a reminder, 5th Street was changed to one-way westbound in January 2019; these two streets will now form a couplet of circulation for improved traffic flow.
