October 12, 2018 - Paving This Weekend
Paving activities will begin this weekend on Prospector Avenue. Maintaining traffic flow and access to businesses is important to Park City so one lane in the westbound direction will remain open at all times during the paving activities. Paving, however, requires significantly more trucks and equipment than we’ve seen previously on the road, which will result in delays up to ten minutes at a time while crews safely maneuver their equipment.

The current schedule is as follows (and is subject to change, weather-pending):

Friday (today): mill off existing asphalt
Saturday: continue the milling effort; begin paving the north side of Prospector Avenue; traffic will be moved to the north side upon completion
Sunday and Monday: hold due to expected inclement weather
Tuesday, possibly Wednesday: pave the south side of Prospector Avenue

A few things to note for this weekend’s construction activities:
  • Prospector Avenue will be limited to local traffic until the paving is complete
  • Extended motorist delays are anticipated to accommodate the increased equipment and trucks
  • Flaggers will be present to direct traffic
  • Driveways may be closed for up to ten minutes while paving equipment passes across individual properties
  • Residents and businesses may experience increased noise and vibration
  • This schedule is subject to change in the event of cold temperatures, rain or snow
Reminder:
Prospector Avenue traffic will be open to one-way travel only, heading westbound.
Prospector Ave can be accessed from Sidewinder and Poison Creek, but vehicles will not be able to enter Prospector Ave from Bonanza. This configuration will be in place through the full length of the project.A map below provides detail regarding the direction of travel during construction.

________________________________________________________

Project Background:

Upon completion, Prospector Avenue will provide the community a safe environment for all modes of transportation with wider sidewalks, upgraded lighting, more efficient use of the roadway to accommodate bus pullouts and well-marked travel lanes, improved storm drainage and LED lighting, and a new layer of asphalt pavement. This work is being done in close coordination with the improvements made by the Prospector Square Property Owner's Association.

Helpful Information:

  • Prospector Avenue will be in a one-way traffic configuration during construction to expedite the contractor's schedule an provide a safe work zone. Vehicles will be guided to travel westbound, from Sidewinder to Bonanza (see map below).
  • The contractor will be on site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and some Saturdays
  • Park City bus stops will be maintained on Prospector Avenue, but school bus stops have been relocated to Bonanza
  • Garbage pick-up and mail delivery will be maintained
  • On-street parking will not be permitted - please make best use of all Prospector Square parking lots
  • Business access will remain open. If more than one access is available, crews may close one access but one will always remain open.
  • Pedestrian access will remain open on one side of the road. During Phase One, pedestrians will be directed to the south side of Prospector Ave.
