Erika Sánchez

The best-selling author of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, Erika L. Sánchez, will be giving a talk at 7pm, followed by a book signing at 8pm. This event is brought to the community by the Park City Library, Communities that Care, CONNECT, and the Christian Center.
I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, was nominated for the National Book Award in Young People's Literature and was an instant New York Times bestseller. Sánchez is seen as anovelist, essayist, poet and self-described "cheerleader" for young women. She seeks to amplify the stories and voices of marginalized people everywhere through the power of storytelling.

Leave No Trace: Film Sreening

See the film Adaptation of My Abandonmentby Peter Rock, who will be the Friends of the Library's Luncheon author (see event details below). The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is being screened by The Park City Film Series.
This moving and surprising film follows a father and his teenage daughter, who have lived off the grid for years in the forests outside Portland, Oregon. When their idyllic unorthodox wilderness life is shattered, both are put into social services. After clashing with their new surroundings, they set off on a harrowing journey to find a new, wild homeland.

Rosina Lozano

Historian Rosina Lozano's latest book, An American Language: The History of Spanish in the United States, chronicles political history of the Spanish language in the United States from the incorporation of the Mexican cession in 1848 through World War II.
Rosina Lozano is an Assistant Professor of History at Princeton University and a historian of Latino history with a research and teaching focus on Mexican American history, the American West, migration and immigration, and comparative studies in race and ethnicity.

Julia Corbett

Author Julia Corbett shares her new book, Out of the Woods: Seeing Nature in the Everyday. In this fresh and introspective collection of essays, Corbett examines nature in our lives with all of its ironies and contradictions by seamlessly integrating personal narratives with morsels of highly digestible science and research. Each story delves into an overlooked aspect of our relationship with nature-insects, garbage, backyards, noise, open doors, animals, and language-and how we cover our tracks. The phrase "out of the woods" guides us through layers of meaning to a contemplation of grief, remembrance, and resilience.

Friends of the Library Annual Luncheon with Peter Rock
Wednesday, October 17th, 11am
Peter Rock, author of My Abandonment, will discuss the book to film adaptation process. "Leave No Trace" the film adaptation was featured in last year's Sundance Festival.
This annual fundraising event is held at Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley.
Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the library or online atthe Friends of the Library Online Store.
