Wind Power  Energy Efficiency  |  Keep Winter Cool |

Wind Power
Electricity generation is the largest source of industrial air pollution in the Nation, and is a major contributor to global warming and fossil fuel resources used to generate electricity are finite resources.  There exists a general consensus that electricity generated using "zero emissions" sources such as solar, wind, and certain small low-impact hydroelectric sources is clean, renewable, and has fewer environmental consequences than fossil fuel generated power.

Park City has entered into a contract with Utah Power to purchase 7.5% of the City's power from wind power.  Park City Council has partnered with the Utah Clean Energy Alliance's Utah Wind Power Campaign and Utah Power to actively promote community participation in Utah Power's Blue Sky wind program through a Community Clean Energy Challenge. The challenge includes a two-tiered goal.  The first tier is to have 5% of the community participating in the program and second goal is to achieve EPA's recognition of the community's efforts by having 2% of the entire community's electricity purchased from renewable power.  Park City has committed to increase their purchase from 7.5% to 10% of the City's power from wind power once one of the challenges goals is met.

Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort and the Canyons Resort have all come on board the Blue Sky program and have committed to purchase a portion of their power from wind power.

Thank you Park City residents and businesses, customer rates are now at 5.22% of Park City customers are participating in the program which is 104% of Park City Council's goal.  Park CIty has committed to increase their purchase from 7.5% to 10% of the City's power from wind power now that one of the challenge goals has been met.  At this time we are still short of our second goal which is to have 2% of Park City customers linking their electricity to wind power.

The community is now linking 1.172% of their energy use to wind energy through the Blue Sky program or 59% of goal.
