Downtown Improvement Plan

After completion of the expanded downtown China Bridge Parking structure in 2006, which added over 300 parking stalls downtown, Phase II of the Downtown Improvements projects began in early 2008.

  • Town Plaza / Shell Space / Pedestrian Improvements – Due to the stalled negotiations with the Post Office creation of a central “Town Plaza” including a realigned Swede Alley will not be realized in the immediate future. The "shell space" building attached to the north of the new parking structure was completed in summer of 2008. The two tenants include the state liquor store and radio station (KPCW). During construction a foundation wall of the historic Marsac Silver Mill was uncovered. Council has directed Staff to reconstruct this wall and create a pocket park in this location, with the historic wall lending fabric to the park. Staff will be gathering ideas on possible components of this park in the near future, and expect to begin construction in the summer of 2009.

Additionally, staff will continue a series of pedestrian improvements in the downtown as part of the planned reconstruction of Swede Alley in 2012; including: a sidewalk on the west side of the street, crosswalks, streetscape improvements, and ADA retrofits.

  • Marsac Building Renovation (City Hall) -The planned seismic improvements, mechanical system upgrades, and ADA retrofit to the existing City Hall are under construction. Project completion is anticipated in early fall 2009.
  • Park City Ice Arena and Sports Complex – Dog Park
During the summer of '07, Phase I of the sports complex was completed. Finishing touches included the maintenance building, the concession and restroom building, finish of the parking lots, permanent bleachers, field lighting, and trails & sidewalk connections. Phase II completed in 2008 included completion of additional playing fields. A dog park was recently completed, providing locals with an off-leash area for their dogs to play. The last phase of the project includes the addition of 2 multi-use fields, which is planned for summer 2010.
